Black granite stone and its types

Black granite is a type of igneous rock that is mainly composed of quartz, mica and feldspar. This type of stone is known for its dark black color and is often used in construction and architectural applications such as countertops, flooring, and monuments.

Black granite is very durable, heat resistant, and usually has a veneer. It is a polish that gives it a shiny and elegant look. Also, due to the need for low maintenance and high resistance, it is usually used in outdoor landscaping and decorative structures.

What is the difference between a white granite stone?

The main difference between black granite and white granite is in their color. The background of the granite is black, black or dark gray, and the veins and spots inside it are in different colors, including white. On the other hand, the background of white granite is white or light gray, and the spots and veins inside it are dark or dark. The reason for the difference between these two types of stone is that white granite is mainly made of quartz minerals. And feldspar is formed, which gives it a bright color. On the other hand, black granite contains minerals such as mica and amphibole, which gives it a darker color. The amount and type of minerals in the stone determines its final color.

This difference in the building materials can be the source of the following performance differences in black granite stone:

  • This stone absorbs and does not reflect.
  • shows less stains and contamination on the surface.
  • How is black granite formed?

Black granite is formed by the slow cooling and solidification of magma or lava below the earth's surface. As it cools, the molten rock solidifies, forming crystals of various minerals such as quartz, feldspar, and mica that are packed together. These minerals combine to form the characteristic mottled and streaked patterns that characterize granite.

The rate of cooling and the composition of the minerals in the magma determine the texture, pattern, and final color of black granite. The process of granite formation takes millions of years and involves a combination of heat, pressure and chemical reactions below the earth's surface.

    Types of Black Granite

Black granite stones can be classified according to different characteristics. However, the common classification in Iran is based on the city where the granite was extracted. Based on this, black granite is divided into the following categories:

    Natanz's black granite

This type of black granite stone is extracted from the city of Natanz near the city of Isfahan. Natanz black granite is the best and most expensive granite in Iran, which is stronger than other granites extracted from other mines. The background of this stone is usually dark to smoky and has white streaks and spots.

    Piranshahr Black Granite

Piranshahr is located in West Azerbaijan and has granite mines. The stones extracted from these mines have very high heat resistance and also, they do not get scratched easily. These stones are known by the brand name "Black Cherry Granite" and have very little water absorption.

    Black Tuyserkan Granite

The black granite stones extracted from Tuiserkan mines are black with crow's feet and they are also called eye tears. Since this stone is very mirror-like, it can only be photographed in the studio. The seeds in the background are black, gray and faded. Tuiserkan granite is also expensive and exported.

Physical and chemical properties of black granite

The chemical composition of black granite can vary, but it usually contains about 60-70% silica (SiO2), 10-20% aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and smaller amounts of other minerals such as iron oxide, magnesium oxide, and calcium oxide.

Physical characteristics of black granite include high density (typically between 2.6 and 2.8 g/cm3) and high hardness (typically between 6 and 7 on the Mohs scale). It also has low porosity, which resists staining and water absorption.

In appearance, black granite is often fine-grained and may contain small crystals of quartz and feldspar. Because of its durability and beautiful appearance, it is usually used in countertops, flooring, and wall coverings.

    Applications of Black Granite Stone

Black granite stone is usually used in countertops, flooring and wall cladding due to its durability and beautiful appearance. Also, its high density and hardness make it suitable for high-traffic areas such as walkways, as it is resistant to scratches and wear.

Furthermore, its low porosity, which makes the stone resistant to staining and water absorption. makes black granite a practical option for kitchen and bathroom surfaces.

This stone is a popular option for residential and commercial applications due to its dark color and luxury.
